Beyond the Finish Line — Nominate an Athlete

Extraordinary stories. Everyday people. The spirit of perseverance.

Behind every athlete is a story worth hearing. Beyond the Finish Line is The Local Trail’s series celebrating Vermont athletes and outdoor enthusiasts—their journeys, achievements, motivations, and contributions to their communities.

We’re interested in competitive and recreational athletes, adaptive athletes, first-time finishers, late bloomers, mentors, and people who simply love being active outdoors. A podium finish is never required.

Nominate Someone

Know a Vermonter with a story we should explore? You can nominate yourself or someone else. Please share:

  • The athlete’s name and Vermont town or community.
  • Their sport or outdoor activity.
  • A few sentences about what makes their story meaningful.
  • Your name and a way for us to contact you.
  • Whether the athlete has agreed to be contacted.

For now, please reach out through our contact page with your nomination. Do not include private medical details or other sensitive personal information. We’ll follow up directly if we would like to learn more.

How We Tell Stories

We approach every athlete as a whole person, not a label or a hardship. Athletes choose what personal experiences they wish to share. We verify factual claims, seek permission for photographs, and make editorial decisions independently.

Submitting a nomination does not guarantee a feature. We will seek the athlete’s consent before interviewing them; for minors, we will also obtain appropriate parent or guardian permission.

Adventure begins close to home. Inspiration often does, too.
