A Handwritten Note in an Automated World: Two Brothers Bicycle Co.

THE SHOPS WORTH FINDING · INDEPENDENT SPOTLIGHT · FIRSTHAND PURCHASE

Sometimes the most memorable part of an order isn’t what’s in the box. It’s the person who packed it.

I recently ordered a 45NRTH Naughtvind cycling jacket from Two Brothers Bicycle Co. in Burnham, Pennsylvania. The order shipped quickly, and the jacket arrived carefully packed. That’s a solid start, and exactly what I hope for when buying outdoor gear.

But something else caught my attention: a handwritten note thanking me for the order, saying they hoped I’d love the jacket, and adding that 45NRTH is great stuff.

The actual handwritten note included with my jacket order.

The note even invited me to leave a Google review. That’s it. A few words, written by an actual human being. No elaborate promotion, no automated flourish. Just a personal touch that made an ordinary purchase feel like a relationship between people rather than a transaction between systems.

Why It Matters

As a small-business owner myself, that kind of attention resonates. It’s the experience I try to create for my own customers: do the basics well, care about the details, and remember there’s someone on the other end of the order.

Small independent shops deserve the spotlight when they earn it. They don’t have to be the cheapest, and they don’t get a free pass simply for being small. Good products, fair value, dependable fulfillment, honesty, and genuine service all matter.

What I Can—and Can’t—Say Yet

  • Experienced firsthand: Prompt shipping, careful packaging, and a thoughtful handwritten thank-you note.
  • Purchased: 45NRTH Naughtvind jacket.
  • Not evaluated: Returns, warranty handling, problem resolution, or consistency across multiple purchases.

One good order doesn’t prove that every future order will be perfect. But it’s enough to make me take notice—and enough to share a positive, clearly limited customer experience.

The Local Trail’s take: Two Brothers Bicycle Co. made a strong first impression by doing the practical things right and adding a personal touch that mattered. A shop worth remembering.
